The Mission of the Planning Department is to enhance the quality of life within the Oroville City Limits by improving, or maintaining the resident's expectations, providing proactive service to the general public and preparing for necessary growth.

Functions of the Department include providing both current planning services and long-range community planning, while striving to support a business friendly environment together with environmental protection and neighborhood stability.

The Department administers a variety of City regulations relating to physical development within the City. Current planning functions include permit processing for subdivisions, conditional uses, building and site review for new construction, and preparing project-related environmental review.

Long-range planning activities of the Department include overseeing the development and implementation of the City General Plan and City Zoning Ordinance. The Department plays an important role as a liaison with other governmental agencies as well as neighborhood, business and civic groups.

The Department also provides staff support to the City Council, Planning Commission, Development Review Board and Historical Advisory Board.
